Not to be missed in London N1…

Upper Street, situated between Angel and Highbury and Islington tube stations, has been around since the days of King Henry VIII. Some of the best shopping to be found in London with a real mix of independent shops as well as high street names, with the advantage of less crowds and tourists than the likes of Oxford Street. Head to The Ladybird bar for cocktails in the evening, and for some of the best Turkish food in London try Antepliler. For an old time cinema experience, it’s worth checking out the Screen on the Green, which also hosts comedy and music nights.

London Canal Museum is located in N1, where you can look inside a narrowboat cabin and learn the story of London’s canals and waterways. There is also a Victorian ice well that used to store ice from Norway for the ice cream maker Carlo Gatti.

The King’s Head Theatre in Islington is the first pub theatre to be founded since Shakespeare’s day. Check the box office for latest productions or enjoy a pint in the Victorian Pub that enjoys roaring fires in colder months. There are often bands playing in the evening too.

Hoxton is a great area to explore for some nightlife. For a more civilised evening, head to Bluu, in Hoxton Square, serving tapas and an extensive wine and cocktail menu. If you’re after a night on the tiles, then Electricity Showrooms, also in the square, features a retro dance floor playing some fifties classics.
